I was working at the pin cart on the end of Main Street a while ago when I had a woman come running up to me. “Excuse me,” she said apologetically, “but I just saw a trash can over by the castle. It was walking! Is that normal? I looked inside, I saw trash and everything, and it was just walking along…” She trailed off, looking bewildered.
“It’s perfectly normal,” I reassured her. “Tinkerbell likes to mess around. Pixie dust, you know? Don’t worry.”
The woman looked to be in her late thirties, and frankly, not pleased at all that I was telling her Tinkerbell was responsible for the trash can. I tried not to laugh.
If you’re expecting me to tell you that there is a logical explanation for moving trash cans, you’re wrong. Okay, well, there is a logical explanation, even if it isn’t logical by your standards. This is Walt Disney World. Things happen. There’s a walking plant in Animal Kingdom, a wandering trash can in Magic Kingdom, and I don’t even know what’s in Hollywood Studios and EPCOT, but I’m sure there’s something. Sometimes it’s because of Tinkerbell, and sometimes, it’s just magic.
Whether or not you choose to believe in that is up to you, but hey. It’s Disney. Expect the unexpected, and believe in the magic of pixie dust. It’s the only place in the world where that’s the norm.
